When will my order arrive if I am located within Dublin?
Once you place your order you will receive an email order confirmation. Your order will arrive two days later and in the case of Saturday orders your order will arrive three days later. There is no delivery on Sunday and Monday.
When will I receive my order if I am located outside Dublin?
Once you place your order you will receive an email order confirmation. You will receive your order two/three days later. Your order will be delivered by our delivery partners in Ecoxpress. They deliver using electric vans. Your contact details will be shared with their team only for the purposes of delivery and are stored according to GDPR guidelines. In some circumstances your order may be delivered with UPS. You will receive notification from them regarding your delivery. There is no delivery on Sunday and Monday.
What if an item I order goes out of stock after I place my order?
If an item goes out of stock after you place your order we will replace it with a similar item of similar value. We will endeavour to contact you in the event this occurs. Items may go out of stock due to the seasonal nature of some items and also due to fishing conditions and availability.
What is the delivery charge?
Delivery is €8.50 within Dublin and €16.50 outside of Dublin. Please ensure that you provide the correct address and pay the correct delivery charge for your location. If you provide an incorrect address this may delay your order and in some cases delivery may be cancelled and your order refunded.
Can I choose the time my order is delivered?
Unfortunately at this time you cannot choose the time that your order is delivered. It will arrive on the date it is due and will be delivered as part of a delivery schedule so the time of your delivery will depend where your are on the route. It is your responsibility to be present to receive your order or leave delivery instructions in the event you may not be home when the order is delivered. If we need to leave your order outside in the event you are out we will not be responsible for any damage or loss arising from the parcel being left outside. If we cannot get in contact with you we may have to bring your parcel back to the depot. In this event we may attempt delivery the following day or if this is not possible you will have to make arrangement to collect it from our headquarters in Clonshaugh, Dublin 17.
Can I choose to collect my order from SSI headquarters?
Yes at the checkout you will have the option to choose ‘Pickup from a Location’. At present the only location you can pick up from is our headquarters at the following address: Unit 9 Willsborough Business Centre, Clonshaugh, D17T854.
Are any of the fish farmed?
We work with a number or reputable and well-run fish farms. We believe it is important to use these sources of seafood as it allows the stocks in the sea to recover from overfishing. Fish farms are very well run and the product is of superior quality. Some of the fish that are farmed are Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Turbot, Halibut, Salmon and Organic Salmon. All farmed fish are noted as such.
Is it possible to shuck the oysters before being sent?
We do not shuck the oysters before we deliver them as it is important for them to remain closed to keep the juices inside and to keep them fresh. With a bit of practice and the correct equipment i.e. a shucking knife, it is quite easy to learn how to shuck an oyster yourself and, if required, we can supply instructions on how to do this safely and in the right way. You can also purchase shucking knives on the website.
How long will my seafood keep in the fridge?
When you receive your seafood it will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. The use by date will be on the batch code supplied with each product. You can also freeze your seafood in the freezer for up to one month. For shellfish we recommend to consume as soon as possible after you receive and no more than 3 days after it arrives. You cannot freeze shellfish unless you cook it first and them remove it from the shell. Of course we always recommend to eat your seafood as soon as possible while it is beautifully fresh, but storing for a later date is also an option as long as you follow these guidelines.
Do lobsters arrive alive?
Yes we deliver lobster live though we pack them with ice packs to keep them in a lightly sedated state and they will arrive like this. We recommend that you keep them in the bottom drawer in your fridge, remove other items first, and cover the lobster with a damp dish cloth to keep it comfortable and sedated until you are ready to dispatch and cook.
Will my frozen goods arrive frozen?
Although we add ice packs to each order to keep them chilled and fresh for arrival, some thawing of frozen goods may occur. If the item has completely thawed we do not recommend refreezing. You should consume within the time frame recommended on the packaging.
How will my order be packed for delivery?
We use recyclable and compostable packaging. The cardboard box is double walled for insulation and we also use a temperature control packing material. Along with the ice packs it keeps the box chilled and all the contents fresh. The fish is packed in our compostable fish bags that are especially lined to reduce moisture loss. Some items may be vacuum packed to keep them fresh during trust.
When will I receive my first seafood box after I subscribe to the seafood box service?
After you place your order you will receive a confirmation email confirming your order. We run the subscription box service every two weeks and deliver on the Friday of that week. You will be placed into the next available schedule and then you will receive another email with the date of your first subscription box. You will then receive your box every two to four weeks from that date depending on whether you choose the fortnightly or monthly option.
How many people is the subscription box suitable for?
Your subscription box is suitable for two hungry adults or two adults and 1-2 children. The selection of seafood is chosen by our expert fishmongers based on the landings of the week, and will offer a wonderful selection of seafood and shellfish. You will also receive a letter providing details of the items in your seafood box and a couple of recipes to use with the seafood received.
